Sometimes, checking that a test is functioning correctly can be a time-consuming exercise. For instance, if only a small percentage of traffic is affected to the variations (see traffic modulation), you will be excluded from the test most of the time.
Another example is when verifying a test live using cookies, when there are multiple variations. For example, with 5 different variations, it would take a long time to see all versions just by using AB Tasty’s random assignment.
Fortunately, you can edit the ABTasty cookie in order to speed up this process. For this, you will need to use Google Chrome and enable the extension EditThisCookie.
Once you have added and enabled this plugin, you will be able to easily add, delete and modify cookies. In this case, we need to edit the value of the cookie “ABTasty”. To do this, click the cookie icon which should now appear at the right of your navigation bar, then scroll and select “ABTasty”:
Under “value”, delete the contents and replace them with the following string of characters:
Here, [TestID] refers to the ID of the test in question. This appears in the URL of the editor and reporting pages for the test. For example, in the below URLs, the test ID is 49019.
[VariationID] is a specific number associated with the variation in question. This can be found in the URL of the preview. For example:
Therefore, in the above example, one might type:
In cases where you want to force the original version, simply use the value 0 instead of the variation ID.
